NEVILLE TAKES THE BLAME

PHIL NEVILLE has been talking about the infamous Euro 2000 tackle that gave Romania a penalty and put England out of the tournament.

Neville returned from Belgium and Holland to a hostile reception from England fans after the last minute tackle and has not talked about the incident until now.

"It was a bad tackle," admitted Neville, "The criticism that followed was right."

"I decided the best thing to do was to keep my mouth shut," Neville told MUTV. "I made a bad tackle but if I was put in the same situation again, I might do the same because I'm a defender and I'm paid to make tackles."

The 23-year-old full back went on holiday to escape the media and believes that the success at Manchester United added to the treatment he has received.

"If I played for any other club, it might not have been blown up so much."

"At the start of the season everyone was saying I would get booed but every United player gets booed anyway. We're all used to that."
