NILIS CAREER IN DOUBT
LUC NILIS' future in the game is now in serious doubt, after it emerged that the Belgian forward suffered a compound fracture of the leg.
The accident happened as Nilis challenged for the ball with Ipswich keeper Richard Wright, and he was immediately stretchered off the pitch and rushed to hospital.
Villa assistant manager Steve Harrison confirmed the worst fears, saying: "The players told me there was blood on the pitch. Luc's injury looks a very nasty one."
The injury is very similar to the one which ended the career of Coventry's David Busst, who suffered a horrific leg break against Manchester United in 1996.
At 33, Nilis is facing a long period on the sidelines and it could be that his career may have been ended at Portman Road.
