REBROV AND AGENT CONFIRM ARSENAL SNUB

TOTTENHAM star Sergei Rebrov has launched a bitter attack on the club`s arch-rivals Arsenal, after signing for Spurs ahead of their North London neighbours.

The Ukrainian striker has admitted that the White Hart Lane faithful have yet to see the best of his abilities, but he is hopeful that he make a bigger impact on The Premiership as the season wears on, by shooting Spurs into Europe.

"There was interest from Arsenal before now, but the approach was second hand," Rebrov told Sky Sports Centre.

"There was an offer from Arsenal and we were ready to sign a contract but the approach from Tottenham was a lot more professional and, when I met the leader from Tottenham, I decided to come to this club."

The former Dinamo Kiev striker`s agent, Sandor Varga, confirmed: "Arsenal offered to take Sergei two years ago, when they came in for Oleg Luzhny, but, at that time, Kiev were not prepared to let him go.

"They came back when Sergei was finally released but Tottenham`s approach was better.

"He was convinced Spurs really wanted him."

There have been some fears amongst the supporters that Rebrov may quit the club if they fail to obtain a place in Europe next season, following comments attributed to their record buy recently.

Varga did admit: "He`s very happy but he`s used to playing in Europe.

"Remember, he scored 28 goals in the Champions League for Dinamo Kiev.

"Sergei keeps asking about his wife and son," he explained. "He yearns for the day when he can come home after training and see them both, rather than live in a hotel.

"He`ll be able to concentrate far better on the pitch when he has his own home in a couple of weeks. His wife is coming over to help Sergei choose the furniture and soon he will be joined permanently by both her and his one-year-old son."

Rebrov is convinced that the goals will soon start to flow, so far he has only two to his credit, but he feels that the team`s performance is the most important thing, at the moment.

"I am not happy that I am not scoring a lot goals but I am a team member and, if my team is winning, that is the most important goal," he said through an interpreter.

"This is my team. I like all the players. It is right for me but it is very difficult to play in the Premier League for the first time.

"All players, managers and chairmen want to win The Premiership and I think doing that is real for this team.

"In the future, we can win a cup, maybe even the European Cup.

"It is not easy but it is possible."
