WILKO CALLS FOR TEDDY
Sheringham has not pulled on an England jersey since the European Championship qualifier in Bulgaria last year, but the 34-year-old has been in fine form for the reigning Premiership champions scoring five goals so far this season.
"I have spoken to Steve McClaren (United's assistant manager) but I have not been able to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson," Wilkinson said. "I am hoping to bring Teddy in, but nothing is certain yet."
Wilkinson is keen for Sheringham to join the England squad as cover for his United team mate Paul Scholes who is a doubt for Wednesday's clash with a foot injury. Scholes has been carrying the injury for a couple of weeks and joins Gary Neville and Greame Le Saux as doubts for Wednesday's crucial clash.
David Beckham and Steven Gerrard have been ruled out of the clash with knee and groin injuries respectively.
