DOWNER SIGNS NEW DEAL

LEYTON ORIENT'S young starlet Simon Downer has signed a new two year contract with the club, although he remains a target of Tottenham.

Spurs boss George Graham has a talent for unearthing lower league gems, with the likes of Simon Davies and Matthew Etherington in their ranks.

Tommy Taylor, the Leyton Orient boss has been quoted as saying: "I won`t be selling anyone - unless someone comes in with £1 million for Downer."

Reserve team boss Chris Hughton has watched Downer on a number of occasions, prompting Taylor to say: "If the right price came in for him, I could not stand in his way, if he wants a move into the Premiership.

"We have offered Simon a new deal and I am hoping he will continue his career with us."

Meanwhile Richard Garcia will stay at Orient for another month, the West Ham forward having had his loan extended.
