WEAH CLAIMS LACK OF RESPECT

DESPITE earlier declaring that his parting from Manchester City was amicable, George Weah has launched a bitter attack on The Citizens, claiming that he was signed as a publicity stunt.

The Liberian international striker had his two-year contract effectively ripped up, following talks with manager Joe Royle on Monday, and he claimed that he was content with a place on the bench, but he revealed that he was shown a lack of respect.

"It was not a matter of not playing," the former World Footballer of the Year said. "I left because of the way I was treated. There was a lack of communication, no decency and no respect.

"I know people may think it is about money, but I was born poor and cash has nothing to do with it. But I will not allow anyone to insult my integrity.

"I was made to feel old and of no use to the club. I felt I was being used for publicity, to attract other players and to show the public that big players would come here.

"I am not a trouble maker and I don`t need to play every game - I just want to be respected. I just want to be treated like an ordinary player.

"Coming to Manchester City was a great challenge for me, but now I feel like the worst player that ever existed."

Weah revealed that he will consider other offers from within England, adding: "I don`t want to make a quick decision but I`d consider playing for another English club."

But he also stressed that nothing will be decided until after he flies to America to fulfil Unicef and Fifa commitments, saying: "I will review my situation at a later date."

Despite Weah`s stance, planetfootball.com understands that the 34-year-old is on his way back to Italy, where he made his name at Milan, and Bologna are heading the chase for his signature, after losing out to the Maine Road outfit over the summer.
