TAMUDO SET FOR GERS SWITCH

RAUL TAMUDO is finally set to join Glasgow Rangers within the next 48 hours in a £10.5 million switch from Espanyol, according to the player`s agent.

The Spanish Olympic star, who turned 23 on Thursday, has been continually linked with The Gers since the summer and the player`s agent, Tomas Duran, has now confirmed that a move is close to fruition and that he expects Tamudo to fly to Scotland on Friday for a medical.

After discussions with the Catalan side, the Glasgow giants agreed to meet the player`s valuation, as set out in his contract.

Rangers were first linked with the player in August when it was hoped that he would sign before the deadline for the first round of Champions League matches.

The player opted to stay at the Montjuic at the time, but the club`s debts of around £12 million have forced the team to offload their most-prized asset and a fortnight ago it was revealed that Rangers had renewed their bid for the player.

Aston Villa were also linked with a move for the young striker, but the strong possibility that Champions League football may be on the cards if he moves to Ibrox, may have persuaded him to join Gers.

Dick Advocaat`s side are well-placed in Champions League Group D, but Wednesday`s goalless draw at home to Galatasaray will have shown the Dutch manager that an addition to his strikeforce will be necessary if they are to progress from the next round of the tournament.

Tamudo has previously been lukewarm about the prospect of moving to Glasgow, but it would seem that Rangers are finally set to get their man.
