SEAGULLS DOWNED BY SPIREITES

IN the clash of the day in Division Three, between the top pair, Chesterfield triumphed over Brighton 1-0.

The Seagulls were hampered by the second half dismissal of Charlie Oatway and were left reeling from a last minute goal by midfielder Jamie Ingledow.

Third placed Cheltenham crashed to a 2-0 defeat at home to play-off rivals Rochdale, defender Mark Monnington scored both of the visitors` goals.

Southend and Leyton Orient both travelled to Yorkshire and earned a point through 1-1 draws at Hull and York respectively.

A first goal in four years by veteran Paul Holmes helped strugglers Torquay to a 4-2 win over Carlisle at Plainmoor.

Barnet heaped more misery on bottom club Halifax, a goal from the penalty spot by John Doolan in the first half sealed victory for the Bees.
