TAMUDO NETS IN ESPANYOL RETURN

RAUL TAMUDO hit the target as Espanyol cruised to a 4-0 victory over Austrian side Graz AK on Thursday in a largely successful time for Spanish sides in the Uefa Cup second round first leg.

Tamudo, who was deemed too unfit to move to Rangers last week (before deciding he didn`t want to move to Glasgow anyway), opened the scoring in his return to the Espanyol side on the quarter hour mark.

Five minutes later Constanin Galca doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Mauricio Pochettino was fouled by Eric Akoto.

Graz`s cause was made harder when Akoto was sent off six minutes later.

Sergio netted a brace before the half time interval before the Catalan side eased off through the break.

In another superb performance, Alaves cruised to a 3-1 away win at Norwegian side Lillestrom.

The Spanish side took the lead in the second minute when Ibon Begona headed home past goalkeeeper Emille Baron.

Twenty minutes later Oscar Tellez doubled the lead with another header and Cosmin Contra virtually sealed their passage into the third round with a goal after 67 minutes.

Lillestrom pulled back a consolation through substitute Roger Helland but never looked like getting on level terms with Alaves, who currently fifth in la Liga, and could even afford Ivan Daniel Alonso to blast a penalty over the bar.

Meanwhile, Jose Maria Quevedo`s 18th minute strike gave Rayo Vallecano a slender first leg lead over Danish side Viborg.

The Spanish side missed a plethora of chances to extend their lead in the first half before German midfielder Gerhard Poschner made their task more difficult by getting sent off six minutes into the second half.

Rayo then settled for a one-goal advantage to take to Denmark in a fortnight`s time from this point onwards.

In an otherwise good night for Spanish teams, Celta Vigo fell to a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City`s conquerors Crvena Zvezda in their away leg.

Goran Drulic`s 62nd minute strike gave the side, formerly known as Red Star Belgrade, the lead when he latched onto Goran Bunjevcevic`s through-ball.

Celta dominated the second half but were kept at bay largely thanks to Aleksandar Kocic in the Crvena goal.
