NO DI CANIO MOVE BUT SOMA TRIAL

LAZIO'S ambitious approach to sign West Ham maverick Paolo di Canio appears to have failed, whilst Hammers manager Harry Redknapp has admitted an interest in Bryne defender Ragnvald Soma.

Speculation has linked di Canio with a return to Italy after an alleged dispute with Redknapp in the wake of last weekend's defeat to Arsenal, despite the manager playing down the claims.

Reports are now suggesting that the Londoners rejected a £3.75 million offer for the Italian after telling Lazio that the 32-year-old would not be sold for less than £5 million.

Lazio had hoped to complete the tranfer in two stages, first paying £650,000 to take him to the Stadio Olimpico on loan until the end of the season, before the remaining £3.1 million was paid in the summer to make the transfer permanent.

Meanwhile, Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Norwegian Under-21 international Soma who, as earlier revealed on planetfootball.com, will travel to Upton Park for a trial as The Hammers continue to look to build their defence.

The highly-rated 20-year-old has been chased by a number of clubs in recent months, but will take a visit to London now that the Norwegian season has finished in a bid to get a move to one of Europe's top leagues.

"I've watched him for Norway Under-21's and we're getting him over for a few days to take a closer look at him," Redknapp told the official club website.

"We do normally unearth a bargain or two. There's some good players coming from Norway. They're coming from everywhere these days."
