JONES ADMITS HE WAS AT FAULT
The error came after just nine minutes of the Premiership clash on Saturday, as a relatively weak shot from United striker Andy Cole rolled under the Welsh international.
Jones said that the incident was made worse by the fact that it followed Massimo Taibi's blunder at the same ground the previous season, but he has insisted that he will now put the incident behind him.
"It was a disaster and it was at the same end as Taibi, so I got reminded of that a few times," said the Welsh international. "But that's life and at the end of the day you just get on with it.
"He struck the ball, I have gone down to collect it, it caught my ribcage and rolled over the line - it is as simple as that really.
"All I was looking to do was scoop it up but I have not timed it right and the rest is history."
He is now looking to forget the whole affair and focus on the Saints' next game against Coventry City in the Worthington Cup on Wednesday.
"I am not passing the buck - I made a mistake," added the keeper. "But a mistake somewhere else never gets picked up as much.
"You are a hero one minute and a villain the next. I am big enough to take that - I would not be in the job if I wasn't.
"It is up to me to put that aside and get on with the next game. We shall see if I am selected on Wednesday."
