STAN COLLYMORE'S debut strike for Bradford City was the best goal of the weekend according to Planetfootball.com readers.

Collymore yet again hit the target for a new club and sent the Bantam fans wild with a splendid acrobatic effort in the Yorkshire derby against Leeds. The strike that grabbed Bradford a point against their fierce rivals earned Collymore 39% of the 1181 votes on our poll and first place.

Ipswich Town's veteran defender Mark Venus scooped second place in our poll thanks to his free kick that helped Ipswich to a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough.

Venus drilled in a fierce shot from the edge of the box that went low under Boro keeper Mark Crossley, that goal bagged Ipswich three points and Venus 18% of the vote on the poll.

Manchester United's Teddy Sheringham came third in the poll with his delightful left foot chip during his hat-trick that helped United onto a 5-0 thumping of Southampton at Old Trafford.

Sheringham scored his first hat-trick for United and scored 12% of the votes in our poll to jump into third place.

Arsenal's young star Ashley Cole scored for the Gunners in their 5-0 win over Manchester City at Higbury. Cole scored a thumping free kick from 25 yards that was rewarded by 10% of the vote.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was fourth with 7% of the vote as he notched his fifth and sixth goals in two games as Chelsea beat Tottenham 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Emile Heskey and Frederic Kanoute both received 5% of the vote while the game between Leicester City and Derby County supplied the final two goals of the weekend. Both Muzzy Izzet and Rory Delap completed the voting with 2% each.
