GILLESPIE HITS BACK AT SOUNESS

KEITH GILLESPIE has hit back at Graeme Souness after the Blackburn boss handed him a free transfer from Ewood Park and criticised the Northern Ireland international's attitude.

The former Mancester United and Newcastle winger complained that he hasn't been given a chance since Souness was appointed Rovers boss in April.

"When I was told I was given a free transfer, I must admit it came as a bit of a surprise," Gillespie said. "Since then, I've read that Souness has questioned my attitude, but he's never mentioned anything to me.

"I was disappointed that he said such things, as his attitutde towards me hasn't exactly been brilliant.

"He's hardly said two words to me since he came to the club. The truth is that I've only started four games in that time.

"Three of those were when he first came in and we drew with Fulham, then beat both Birmingham and Sheffield United."

The 25-year-old flanker's career has gone off the rails of late since bursting onto the Premiership stage as an impressive youngster and, after being involved in the deal that took Andy Cole from Newcastle to Old Trafford, was a key figure in The Magpies' side that went close to winning the title in 1995-96.

After allegations that he suffered from a gambling addiction and reports of bust-ups with his team-mates he was sold to Blackburn for £2.35 million just under two years ago, but in that time has started just 25 games for the East Lancashire club.
