MONTELLA VOICES FRUSTRATION AT ROMA

OUT-OF-FAVOUR AS Roma striker Vicenzo Montella has spoken out of his frustration at being left on the bench during the Giallorossi's impressive start to the season.

No, I am not content," said Montella. "Of course I want to win the Scudetto but I want to do it with a regular position in the team." I do not see myself an inferior player to anybody else who has been starting regular this season."

Montella has started three games for Roma this season and scored twice but he has found himself out of the team whenever Fabio Capello has been able to call upon his preferred attackers of Francesco Totti, Marco Delvecchio and Gabriel Batistuta.

"I understand that a team looking to win the Scudetto needs to be able to rotate the squad but I want to be playing more," added the former Sampdoria star.

The future for Montella at Roma has looked bleak since Batistuta arrived for a club record £31 million pounds in the summer from Fiorentina.

The Italian press has built up an alleged war between Montella and Batistuta over the number nine shirt and although Montella won that battle, Batistuta it seems has won the war on the field.

The Argentine striker has scored eight times in six Serie A appearances and Montella can have no complaints about Batistuta having a place in the side.

But it is perhaps the apparently immovable presence of Delvecchio that is annoying for Montella.

The former Internazionale striker has yet to score in Serie A this season and yet is the only forward to have played in all the games.

Last season Montella outscored Delvecchio with eighteen goals to Delvecchio's eleven.

For now Montella will have to wait for his chance or move on but any decision to leave when the transfer window opens in January would be sure to alert all of Roma's rivals for the Scudetto.

Milan, Juventus and Lazio have all suffered in the strikers department and are all known to be looking to ease those problems with reinforcements.

Though the likelihood of Roma selling to a rival is improbable, Montella may have to content himself with a seat next to Capello on the bench.
