CITY KEANE ON ROBBIE?

REPORTS in Ireland have suggested that Manchester City have made a £12.5 million ($17.5 million) bid for Internazionale striker Robbie Keane.

The Irish international moved to the Giuseppe Meazza in July when he left Coventry City for £13 million, just one year after signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £6 million.

The Citizens have been looking for a striker since George Weah left the club last month, and have been linked to Tottenham`s Les Ferdinand and Chelsea`s Eidur Gudjohnsen.

But the large fee is sure to rise a few eyebrows, and it is doubtful whether City would be willing to make such a large outlay, especially in the wake of the on-going scenario regarding the shake-up of the current transfer system. Although a loan-move for the Irishman has also been suggested.

Keane has been struggling to get into the Nerazzurri`s starting line-up on a regular basis since Marco Tardelli took-over from Marcello Lippi, who signed the 20-year-old.

Christian Vieri is returning to fitness, and Hakan Sukur, along with Uruguayan Alvaro Recoba, are in front of him in the pecking order.

He had been linked with a loan move to Reggina, but he said that would not interest him. However, this latest report is sure to alert a number of clubs in England, including Aston Villa, who were in the race to buy the player before he joined local rivals Coventry.
