MBOMA IS AFRICAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR
30-year-old Mboma, who plays for Parma, helped Cameroon to win the African Nations Cup and also appeared as an over-age player in the Olympics, scoring four times in Sydney.
The powerful attacker also caught the eye with a remarkable overhead kick during a friendly against France in October, helping him to finish above his international team-mates Lauren and Eto`o in the voting.
Lauren, who left Real Mallorca for Highbury in the summer, was runner-up, with his club colleague Kanu in fifth place.
Pacey front-man Eto`o is owned by Real Madrid, but is currently on loan at Mallorca.
Mboma is the first Cameroon international to win the award since the legendary Roger Milla triumphed in 1990.
