BATTY MAKES LONG AWAITED COMEBACK

LEEDS UNITED'S long-term injury victim David Batty has made the first steps in his bid to return to action by playing in a behind doors friendly with Huddersfield Town.

The midfielder has been out of action for over a year after undergoing an operation on his troublesome Achilles injury and the England international was expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season but he has surprised everyone by making such a quick recovery.

Batty featured in the game along with Harry Kewell, Ian Harte and Darren Huckerby, which the Premiership outfit won 3-1 with two goals from Huckerby and one from Harte while Jon Dyson got a cosolation for The Terriers.

The return of Batty will be a big boost to Leeds boss David O'Leary who will be hoping to call on the 32-year-old when the Champions League resumes in February.

If Batty suffers no reaction to the run-out he will probably step-up his recovery by playing for the reserves next week, but he is unlikely to make a first team return until The New Year.

Huddersfield boss Lou Macari also included first team players Dyson, Scott Sellars, and Dean Gorre in his side as he wanted them to get some action after Town's mid-week reserve game with West Brom was postponed.

"I was keen for Jon to keep his sharpness after the reserves game against West Brom was postponed on Tuesday," said Macari.

"And I also wanted Dean and Scott Sellars to get a game under their belts before Saturday."
