TOON LINKED WITH STRIKE DUO

REPORTS have again linked Leeds United striker Michael Bridges to Newcastle United, and The Magpies have also shown reported interest in Wimbledon hit-man John Hartson.

Toon-fan Bridges, who was born in North Shields, is currently side-lined with ruptured ankle ligaments and will be out of action until March at the earliest.

But Bobby Robson is known to be an admirer of the 22-year-old, who could be a long-term answer, possibly in exchange for Kieron Dyer who is thought to be high on David O'Leary`s shopping list.

However, any transfer will be put on hold until next year, when Bridges will be back to full fitness.

Meanwhile, John Hartson could be the short-term replacement for the injured Carl Cort.

It is being suggested that The Toon could make a loan-move for Hartson, and could even have the Welsh international signed by the weekend.
