PRAISE ROLLS IN FOR WENGER

AFTER being voted the fourth best French manager of all time, a number of leading voices from the country have praised Arsene Wenger for his work.

The manager has been in charge at Monaco, Nagoya Grampus Eight and Arsenal during his coaching career, and came out behind such illustrious names as Aime Jacquet - the current France manager and winner of the poll - Albert Batteux and Michel Hidalgo.

The poll was conducted with 34 top players who have won the France Football Player of the Year award in the past, who voted for their top five managers.

David Ginola, Zinedine Zidane and Bernard Lama have all paid tribute to him but, interestingly, it has emerge that current Gunners star Sylvain Wiltord did not vote for Wenger.

"Arsene is on course to compile one of the best ever CV's in French football management," said Juventus star Zidane. "He is a truly global figure and his strength is the ease with which he can adapt. The success he has achieved in England is simply incredible."

Ginola, who played for Arsenal's bitter rivals Spurs, said: "Arsene is an almost perfect amalgam of all qualities needed to be a coach.

"He is strong from a technical viewpoint and adaptable when it comes to tactics. I appreciate his qualities as a human being, his integrity and the rapport he has with players."

French goalkeeping legend Bernard Lama, who picked Wenger as his first choice, added: "I preferred Arsene to Jacquet because he has been a success with a number of different clubs. These two are head and shoulders above the compeitition."
