UNITED'S INJURY LIST BEGINS TO CLEAR

MANCHESTER UNITED could welcome back star duo Jaap Stam and Andy Cole in the near future as they look to build on their eight point lead at the top of the Premiership.

Both Stam and Cole, along with Ronny Johnsen and David May, have been tentatively placed in the line-up for a friendly against Wrexham, which has been specially set-up to allow all of United's injured stars to get a run out.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that whoever comes through the game unscathed could be involved in the FA Cup match-up with Division One's runaway leaders Fulham.

Stam was eventually forced into having surgery in September to settle a long-standing Achilles tendon injury.

The same reason saw Cole eventually go under the surgeon's knife in early December.

Ferguson said: "Stam goes to see a specialist on January 3 to get the all clear - and we expect he'll get that so he'll play the next day.

"He has already been doing training with us and he has been doing really terrific.

"We've arranged the game for Stam, Cole, Johnsen, May and Bosnich at Wrexham. It's a game we are looking for to get them back on track.

"It's the first step back and then we've got the FA Cup on the Sunday (January 7) with Fulham. Will any of them play? You never know. It depends how we are placed. Who knows?"
