BATTY TO OVERCOME NEW HEART SCARE

LEEDS UNITED midfielder David Batty has denied claims that he is set for another lengthy lay-off, after it was confirmed that his heart condition had resurfaced.

The England international confirmed to his own website at bigfanof.com, that his heart condition called Peri Carditis had come back, but he did state that it would affect him as he looks to regian full fitness.

"Some people are saying this could see me laid off for another lengthy period but I am glad to say this is not true," said Batty. "As has always been the case, it's just a matter of dealing with the problem when it comes."

"I had some more tests this week and the cardiologist told me I just need to increase my tablet intake to reduce the inflammation around my heart.

"I guess the fans want me back in the team as soon as possible and that is great, but I have to think about my life beyond football.

"If there is any danger of it affecting me beyond my career, I will pack it all in, it's as simple as that.I just have to be sensible about it all because it's my heart and I don't intend to take any risks."

Batty has just recovered from long term Achilles injury and should figure in the New Year`s day game against Middlesbrough at Elland Road.
