BATISTUTA INJURY FEARS

REPORTS are rife in Italy that Roma striker Gabriel Batistuta's knee injury may be more serious than initially feared.

Roma coach Fabio Capello revealed last week that he will play agaisnt Atalanta without the Argentinian international, but it now appears that Batistuta will miss the following match against Bari as well.

The club's medical staff have not been able to diagnose the problem and want to wait a few days before commenting on the injury.

The 31-year-old player is set to be replaced by Italian international Vincenzo Montella, who is happy to be picked but would prefer if it was in different circumstances. "I will be in the starting eleven only becouse of Batistuta's problems," said Montella. "It is not easy to live with this kind of situation."

The 26-year-old forward also revealed he is not sure he will still be playing at the Olimpico Stadium next season; saying he wants to wait until next spring before signing a new deal with Giallorossi.
