TORQUAY STARLET JOINS CELTIC

TORQUAY UNITED defender Troy Douglin has extended his stay with Scottish giants Celtic by an extra month.

The 18-year-old centre half has been at Parkhead for the last three months and Celtic have asked the South Coast side for an extra month as they decided whether to make the switch permanent.

"It's Troy's choice," said Wes Saunders. "But he's fairly optimistic that he can do even better if he goes back.

"By all accounts, he had a fairly difficult start up there, which is understandable for a young lad, but I know Celtic have been impressed with him over the last couple of months.

"They have talked about taking him for another three months, but I would be happier with just one more month and see how things go then.

"I've told Troy that he's still part of things here, so he neededn't worry about that.

"But if he came back here now, he wouldn't go straight into the side, with Alex Watson, Jimmy Aggrey and Jason Rowbotham around and with Lee Russell and Paul Holmes nearly fit again."
