BJORKLUND TURNS DOWN LECCE OFFER

VALENCIA defender Joachim Bjorklund has turned down the opportunity to return to Italy with Serie A side Lecce.

Bjorklund, who spent one season with Vicenza, has been out-of-favour at Valencia in this campaign but last season's Champions League runners up were not prepared to sell the player.

"The interest came from Lecce, but Valencia were not interest in that and it wasn't right for Joachim either," said the player's agent Roger Ljung.

The Swedish international stopper has only played five times for high-flying Valencia this season but he wants to stay and fight for his place.

The 29-year-old former Rangers ace admitted he will review the situation in the summer and if he has not regained a place in the side he may well move on.

"I want to play more," said Bjorklund. "If nothing has happened before the summer, I must move."

The experienced international also revealed that he would like to stay in southern Europe.

"I would consider to continue as a professional for some more years," said Bjorklund. "Socially, Italy or Spain would fit best since I know the languages."
