JERMAIN MAN BREAKS ALDO'S RECORD

JERMAIN DEFOE broke the post-war consecutive league goalscoring record as he scored in his tenth successive game to help 10-man Bournemouth to a 2-0 win at Cambridge United.

The visitors were down to ten men for 63 minutes after Wade Elliott was sent off in the 27th minute for a professional foul.

However, Defoe's goal in the 64th minute provided the platform for the visitors' win and it was secured with six minutes to go thanks to James Hayter's goal.

The goal broke the previous record of nine games held by John Aldridge and Kevin Russell, and he will now target the pre-war record, set by Dixie Dean, who scored in 12 consecutive matches.

Walsall relinquished their chance to go second in the Second Division as they conceded a late goal to Rotherham and ended up drawing 1-1.

Substitute Darren Byfield, who had only been on the pitch for six minutes gave Walsall the lead as he got on the end of a flick on and fired it home in the 73rd minute.

However, Chris Sedgewick replied in the 84th minute, as he too got on the end of a knock on and cut inside and fired a shot from the edge of the area into the corner of the net.

The game between Chesterfield and Swindon Town was postponed due to the weather.
