LIZARAZU WANTED TO LEAVE BAYERN

BAYERN MUNICH defender Bixente Lizarazu has revealed that he wanted to leave Germany at the end of last season, but started his search for a new club too late.

"At the end of last season I tried to leave for another experience in England or in Italy, but I started too late," said Lizarazu.

"The club then made me understand there was no solution and they were happy with me."

The 31-year-old was linked with a move to Liverpool in May but they opted for Christian Ziege instead.

Lizarazu is about to return to action after spending three months out after a skiing accident, which he says was not as bad as was made out, and is looking forward to playing again.

"I just need matches to be perfectly fit and find my form again," added Lizarazu.

"It was ridiculous to give so much importance to that incident. I spent one hour in the hospital because I remained unconscious three minutes after my fall.

"I heard people saying I spent three days in hospital and was hours into a coma."

The French international has also had problems after being threatened by Basque separatist group ETA. They were furious that he has been playing for France after being born on the Basque coast of France, but he insists it will not be affecting his football.

"Today I just want to train and play. I am in a period where I need to clear my mind.

"I have to take precautions. The situation is ridiculous and unreal."
