IRWIN REVEALS MANAGEMENT DESIRE

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Denis Irwin has revealed that he has ambitions to move into management when he finally brings to an end his illustrious career.

The 35-year-old former Republic of Ireland international, who is out of contract in the summer, wants to play on at the top level for a further two years before hanging up his boots and contemplating a move into coaching.

"I see my future in football and intend to take up some coaching badges over the next couple of years," said Irwin.

"When my career is finished I want to stay involved in football, even if that means coaching kids."

The former Oldham full-back, who is hoping to win a new two-year-contract at United, has revealed that he is prepared to leave Old Trafford in order to get regular first team football - even if it means he had drop a division to do so.

"I still feel fit," he continued. "My contract is up this year, and I have about two and a half years of playing in me at the most.

"I'd be happy to drop down a division to keep going. I love playing football."
