MILAN LINKED WITH TIHINEN SWOOP

WEST HAM may face competition to keep Finnish international defender Hannu Tihinen at the club, as Italian giants Milan could be set to offer him a dream move to Serie A.

The Giuseppe Meazza club are looking at the Viking Stavanger ace, who is currently on loan at West Ham United, as cover for the club during their Champions League campaign.

"Our transfer dealings are not closed," said Adriano Galliani, vice president of the club.

These comments may fuel the growing rumours in Italy, that claim Milan have already contacted the Norwegian club to discuss a deal for the 25-year-old defender.

West Ham are keen to make the player's move to London permanent as he has impressed in his short time at the club, but the chance to join Milan may persuade Tihinen to swap England for Italy.

Meanwhile, the proposed return to Italy of Marco Lanna could be called off after Milan told the player he will never play for the club.

Milan moved for Lanna at the start of the month after a series of injuries had seriously weakened the squad and was threatening to jeopardise the club`s chances of finishing in one of the four Champions League positions.

A deal was agreed with Lanna's Spanish club Real Zaragoza and last week the player had his medical with Milan, before completing the formalities of signing a contract for the club.

The original plan was to take Lanna on a six-month loan deal with the option of signing the player permanently in the summer.

However, following the return to fitness of key players, including defender Alessandro Costacurta, and the signing of Dinamo Kiev's Georgian international defender Kakha Kaladze, Milan have changed their minds about Lanna and told him he will never play for the club.

The Rossoneri have now left the decision with Lanna.  If he still wishes to join Milan he can and the club will help him find another team or he can remain with Zaragoza in Spain.
