ZIDANE DELIGHTED AT MEMORIAL

FIFA World Player of the Year Zinedine Zidane is delighted to be honoured by his home-town of Marseille with a giant memorial.

The picture of the inspirational Frenchman was first painted during the successful 1998 World Cup win and was supposed to be removed after the competition.

Vandals had covered it with paint in December but Zidane, who inspired his country to European and World Cup triumph, was overjoyed to unveil a new painting with a 'Made in Marseille' caption.

"It is a great honour. The picture and the caption 'Made in Marseille' means a lot to me," said the Juventus star.

Mayor of Marseille, Jean-Claude Gaudin thanked Zidane for coming to unveil the portrait and for all that he has done for the city.

"I make a point of thanking Zinedine for all that it does, said Gaudin. "For the honour of France and of Marseilles."

"He is a son of this city and we all are proud that he is here today."

Zidane was happy with the new picture which made him look in a different direction, over the sea towards Italy, where he now plays his football.

"On the old one, I looked towards my district, Castellane, on this one, my glance is directed more towards the sea, that changes a little," said Zidane.

"This new photograph is beautiful, I am delighted!"
