BOOTH CONFIRMS SPURS SWITCH

EXCLUSIVE
SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY striker Andy Booth has confirmed that he is set for a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur.

"I will be going to Tottenham," Booth told Planetfootball.com. "I'm just waiting for a phone call now for things to be confirmed."

The news supports our earlier story revealing the North London side`s interest in the 27-year-old, who now seems certain to move to White Hart Lane for a month.

"I think it's a month but there are no plans for a permanent move," added Booth. "We have only talked about the month."

The former Huddersfield star has reportedly been told by boss Paul Jewell that he will not be offered a new contract by The Owls when his current deal expires in the summer, and he will be available under the Bosman Ruling.

The move to London, and a place in The Premiership, will put him in the shop window to hopefully earn him a permanent move to another club.

Steel City rivals Sheffield United have been reportedly interested in Booth and a shock move across Sheffield to The Blades could be his reward if he impressess at Spurs.

The White Hart Lane outfit have injury problems concerning Chris Armstrong and Steffen Iversen, and George Graham feels they are a little light in attack, with Sergei Rebrov still settling in.

Tottenham Director of football, David Pleat, said that they injuries forced the loan move and he hoped that Booth would be available for thegame against West Ham on Wednesday.

It's somewhat unusual for us to make a loan signing but we felt we wanted to give Les Ferdinand the maximum chance to rehabilitate from his hamstring injury," said Pleat on the club's website.

We've also Steffen Iversen and Chris Armstrong out and we felt we needed a little more strength to go with Sergei Rebrov, to give him a fair opportunity.

We can only loan from the Nationwide League or Scotland and usually it's a player who is either surplus to requirements, or financial considerations or contract situations.

After one or two enquiries we decided to go for Andy Booth, he's played in the top division at Sheffield Wednesday and it's an opportunity for him.

He's strong in the air, very wholehearted and very genuine, one of the best professionals I've ever worked with.

If everything goes according to plan we're hoping he'll be available for Wednesday's game at West Ham."
