BAYERN BOSS IN BECKHAM VOW

BAYERN MUNICH general manager Uli Hoeness has delivered an astonishing snub to Manchester United superstar David Beckham, by firmly stating that he would never consider trying to bring him to Germany.

The Bundesliga champions, who failed in a bid to sign Beckham`s team-mate Roy Keane when his contract was due to expire at Old Trafford, have been pondering a move for a major name in a bid to maintain their position amongst the European elite.

However, Beckham does not appeal to Hoeness, even if he was to ever contemplate leaving Manchester for a new career on the continent.

Although admitting the 25-year-old is undoubtedly a huge talent, Hoeness said: "However, I only think of the fact that his wife, this Spice Girl, would come along as well!

"That would be beautiful for the media, but not for us.

"I do not need the theatre."

Beckham, likely to be named Sven Goran Eriksson`s England captain ahead of the friendly with Spain, is due to hold contract negotiations with United, as they bid to tie him to a bumper new deal.

Bayern, meanwhile, continue to be linked with the likes of Hertha Berlin star Sebastian Deisler, even though it has been suggested in the German media that they would be better employed trying to capture a defensive rock, to help shore up their backline.

Stefan Effenberg will be offered a new contract, as the Bavarians look to the former Fiorentina playmaker to continue to pull the strings in midfield.

"Stefan could play this season with us, plus another two years at this level," added Hoeness.
