STANKOVIC SET FOR L'OM

MARSEILLE are set to sign Yugoslavian midfielder Jovan Stankovic from Spanish Primera Liga side Real Mallorca.

The 29-year-old is due to follow in the footsteps of Marseille boss Javier Clemente in making the switch from Spain to France.

Clemente was manager at Real Sociedad at the start of the season but was replaced by John Toshack, who moved in the other direction to Spain.

The fee for Stankovic has not been disclosed, but the international midfielder will arrive in France on Wednesday to finalise personal details, with a four-and-a-half year deal expected to be signed.

Clemente is keen to strengthen the left side of his team and is an admirer of Stankovic's deadly left foot.

L'OM currently sit down in 15th place in Le Championnat and are desperate for an improvement to this.

Mallorca coach Luis Aragones does not want to lose one of his most important players, but has been forced to accept the offer from the French club.
