WENGER PRAISES BERGKAMP

ARSENE WENGER praised Arsenal matchwinner Dennis Bergkamp after the 1-0 success at Coventry, a result which left Gordon Strachan proud of his struggling side`s performance.

Wenger, given a major boost on Friday when successfully appealing against a 12-match touchline ban imposed by The FA, saw Bergkamp improve The Gunners` poor away form in the league with the only goal of a tight encounter.

"It is a relief," the Frenchman conceded. "It is a long time since we won away in the championship.

"Coventry fought very hard and looked quite impressive in the first half - they were outstanding but dropped a little bit physically and we took control of the game, without creating many chances.

"Finally, we got that goal. Our problem is scoring away in The Premiership but we have better defensive stability and it is easier to win when you have a clean sheet.

"Dennis looks sharper and sharper in every game and he did some outstanding things today. His confidence is high at the moment."

Strachan was able to pick up plenty of positive points, despite the fact that his move for John Hartson looks to have fallen through, for good.

"I said to the players we had no pride left in us last time," he revealed. "We have that back today.

"Whatever you do, you need to be proud of what you do, and give it your best shot.

"That is a very young side - I had six players 22 and under playing today.

"The first half encapsulated what we are now. Believing in each other, committed to what we are doing, but having problems around the box.

"There`s a bit of pressure. We`ll sit down and talk about the goal on Monday.

"My concern is the team. Other people need to tell you about John Hartson. I am just a football coach here."
