CLEMENTE CRITICAL OF TREVISAN

MARSEILLE coach Javier Clemente has criticised keeper Stephane Trevisan for failing to handle the pressure of trying to help keep the side in Le Championnat.

The Stade Velodrome club fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Auxerre, with Trevisan`s blunder gifting the only goal of the game to Pierre Deblock.

L`OM`s goalkeeping coach Marc Levy believes that the problems currently affecting Trevisan`s game are of both mind and body.

Levy said: "You know that a goal isn`t always a technical, tactical or physical matter. Anyway, this goal is psychosomatic.

"This hand blunder is the culmination of things that disturbed him.  He was really moved by all the rumours around keepers coming for the past two months."

Clemente has been looking to reinforce his squad with his own personnel and was reportedly tracking Barcelona`s Richard Dutruel, Lille`s Teddy Richert and Lionel Charbonnier of Rangers.

However, no transfer materialised before Wednesday`s deadline and Clemente has criticised Trevisan for failing to deal with the pressure.

Clemente said: "I have no need to explain myself.  As Stephane is a member of the squad he has to remain confident.

"But he doesn`t want to play any more.  It`s a bad period for him because he cannot stand the pressure."

For the next match, against Lyon, Clemente has the dilemma of fielding either 22-year-old Damien Gregorini, or teenager Cedric Carasso.

Trevisan has admitted to making mistakes, but pointed to the underlying problems within the Stade Velodrome as the root-cause of all the uncertainty.

"A lot of things have happened in L`OM recently.  Patrick Blondeau exposed it in the newspaper, it summarises the situation," Trevisan stated, speaking of his team-mate`s criticism of the squad over the weekend.

"I accept my blunders," he added.  "But I state that important people from within the club are not acting properly at the moment.

"I will not talk about the players who are trying their best.  I do not want to pass the blame onto others - I am on the pitch and I made the mistakes.

"But I want to explain to people from outside the club how things really happen.  I don`t want to be controversial, but when you see keepers` names to replace you in the papers every day - it is not the perfect conditions to play football.

"I accept the situation, but I just wish that they would keep me informed.  No one has talked to me.

"I want to bounce back.  I know what I am able to do, but at the moment it is not an easy situation."
