PRESSMAN REJECTS TRIBUTE MATCH

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY goalkeeper Kevin Pressman has admitted that he will not have a testimonial game to mark his 15 years at the club after receiving hate mail from supporters, and he now expects to leave Hillsborough.

The 33-year-old stopper has spent 15 years at the club, and was recently told that he would finally be granted a testimonial after many years of service to The Owls.

However, a barrage of hate mail from supporters has seen him shelve plans for a testimonial game, and admit that he is almost certain to leave the club in the summer.

"When you get letters saying you are the weakest link, it makes it pretty clear that the fans hate me," admitted Pressman. "Some fans have written in saying I am not fit to wear the shirt and it is fair to say that I am certainly not the most popular guy at the club.

"There are some who have accused me of costing Wednesday their place in the Premiership.

"With that sort of treatment, I simply don't think it is in my best interests to go ahead with a testimonial.

"I can't help it if people don't like me. I have always done my best for the club and I would have loved to finish my career at Hillsborough.

"These days when I go out, I can hear the boos start when I am picking up the ball, then there are ironic cheers when I get a backpass. It is all so disappointing, but I have to try not to let it bother me."

The decision comes at the end of a week which has seen him told that the club will be taking back bonus payments given to him in error over recent months.
