BENJAMIN DENIES MARINERS LINK

LEICESTER striker Trevor Benjamin has stated that he knows nothing about a proposed move to First Division Grimsby Town.

Benjamin admitted that he had 'no knowledge of any sort of an offer or move, loan or permanent.'

It had earlier been reported in the local press that Mariners boss Lennie Lawrence was negotiating a deal with the former-Cambridge United striker, that would see him move to Blundell Park for the remainder of the season.

A Leicester City spokesman refused to comment on the speculation involving Benjamin, who was manager Peter Taylor's first signing after arriving at Filbert Street.

Lawrence made it clear earlier in the season that he was looking to bring an English striker to the club on-loan, sparking rumours that he had targeted Benjamin and Bradford City youngster Gareth Grant.

After the recent departure of David Nielsen along with an injury to first-choice striker Bradley Allen, pressure is mounting on the former-Luton boss to secure the signature of a goalscorer.

Meanwhile, Grimsby forward Daryl Clare has been recalled from his loan spell at Cheltenham for treatment on a pulled hamstring.

Although the two clubs have agreed a one-month extension to the Jersey-born player's loan spell, it now seems that the extent of his injury will dictate whether or not he returns to Whaddon Road.
