SADDLERS SLIP UP AS RIVALS CLOSE IN

A POOR day for Walsall as they lost 2-1 at home to Bury whilst rivals Wigan eased to a 2-0 win at Colchester and Rotherham beat Cambridge United by the same scoreline.

Nicky Daws (pictured) put Bury a goal to the good after just four minutes, however, it seemed the hosts had got back on track when Darren Wrack cracked in a 23rd minute equaliser.

It was not to be for Walsall as Steve Redmond's 69th minute strike proved to be the winner and handed the home side their first loss at the Bescot since April 1 2000.

Wigan showed their promotion form with an easy 2-0 win at Colchester.

The visitors stormed into an early lead as Stefan Bidstrup made it 1-0 in the third minute and Andy Liddell's 77th minute goal made it safe for Wigan.

A first half brace from Alan Lee led Rotherham to a 2-0 win over Cambridge, whilst Joe Kinnear's first game in charge of Luton ended in victory as they upset Northampton's fantastic home record with a 1-0 win, Stuart Douglas getting the only goal after just four minutes.

Oldham went nap against Wrexham, mainly due to Canadian star Carlo Corazzin's four goal blast as they stunned their visitors with a 5-1 thrashing.

Meanwhile, Reading continued their recent form with a good 2-1 win away at Brentford - Phil Parkinson and Sammy Igoe gave them a two goal cushion before Mark McCammon's goal with five minutes remaining ensured a frantic finish.
