BERGKAMP WILL NOT TAME LYON

DENNIS BERGKAMP, the non-flying Dutchman, has been grounded by Arsene Wenger as Arsenal prepare for two crucial games in a week, a Champions League clash in Lyon, followed by a London derby with Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Wenger has decided to leave his cultured forward in London, keeping him fresh for the Chelsea clash.

Bergkamp's fear of flying would have led him on a 10 hour trip over land, by car and train, something that Wenger wants to avoid.

Arsenal believe that Thierry Henry will be fit and along with Kanu and French star Sylvain Wiltord, Wenger has three strikers that he can rely on.

With Tony Adams and Ray Parlour suspended for the Sunday game against The Blues, Bergkamp has been kept back for that game.

Speaking to The Mail, Bergkamp seemed to be looking forward to the Lyon game, saying: "I want to make a real impact on our European campaign.

"The second round of the Champions League is something new to me and I want to get more involved.

"I'd like to think I'm one of the players Lyon are worried about."

However, an Arsenal spokesman said: "Dennis will not be travelling. It is the manager's decision."
