VALENCIA PLOT UNITED DOWNFALL

VALENCIA'S former Chelsea midfielder Didier Deschamps has been speaking to the Spanish media about how his side can overcome the threat of Manchester United in Wednesday's Champions league clash.

The French World Cup and European Championships winner admits United are a great side but have a weak defence and he has said that Valencia have to take advantage when they catch The Red Devils on the break.

"It is important we press them and try and stop Giggs and Beckham from playing," Deschamps said.

"They have four forwards of much quality who create a lot of danger and they still have two more on the bench!

"Their only weak spot is their defence where they sometimes leave gaps. What we must do is take advantage of the chances we create."

Deschamps does believe United have added considerably to their squad with the purchase of Fabien Barthez, who he believes is the best keeper in the world.

"For me, Barthez is the best in the world because he has everything," he added.

"He has everything a keeper must have and in addition he can play with his feet. He is very calm, sometimes too much so and he is a very good friend."

Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has also pointed to United's defence as their Achilles heel and warned the Spanish side they must kill off the threat of United to get a result.

"United have everything and to beat them you must be on top and take advantage of the chances that you have," Ranieri said.

"At the back they are not as strong, but to win it is necessary to kill them because they leave the skin and fight until the last second."
