The Real Zaragoza midfielder has emerged as a target for Sir Alex Ferguson, ahead of next month`s transfer deadline, with United rumoured to be ready to pay up to £11 million to clinch his services.

As we reported earlier, `Toro` is contracted to Zaragoza until 2004, having only recently signed an extension to his current deal, but chief scout Martin Ferguson has delivered glowing reports to his brother.

"I feel very flattered because Manchester United has paid attention to me," admitted Acuna.

"It is a great team that can win the Champions Cup.

"At the moment, neither my representative nor the club has said anything to me on the offer, so we will have to hope and study the situation.

"Many things must pass before a transfer can happen."

The 28-year-old, who owns an EU passport, has been targeted by Italian clubs in the past, after shining for Zaragoza and Paraguay.

Spanish sources claim that United want to wrap the deal up before the domestic deadline, even though Ferguson recently stated that there would be no incoming moves at Old Trafford this season.

With Zaragoza through to the Copa del Rey semi-finals, and eyeing a possible route into Europe, they are determined to hang onto their influential performer.

Meanwhile, striker Dwight Yorke scored twice in United`s 4-2 reserve team win over his former club Aston Villa.
