LEHMANN LINKED WITH SCHALKE RETURN

AHEAD of the Bundesliga derby between the two teams, Borussia Dortmund keeper Jens Lehmann is being linked with a return to Schalke.

Lehmann played for Schalke for seven seasons between 1991 and 1998, but moved to Milan before returning to Germany with Schalke.

Lehmann has failed to fully establish himself  with Dortmund, and the fans have not accepted him due to his past with Schalke.

On several occasions in the past, Lehmann has hinted that he would accept a return to Schalke, and Parkstadion manager Rudi Assauer has admitted that they are still in contact.

"We are still in contact with Lehmann," Assauer said. "He's one of the best German keepers, if not the best."

Assauer, however, claimed that nothing is likely to happen in the immediate future, saying: "For the moment, a return is not option as we have just extended the contracts of our keepers Olli Reck and Frode Grodas."

A consideration is that both Reck and Grodas are 35, meaning a keeper will be needed sooner rather than later.
