KEEPER PLACED ON LIST

CARLISLE UNITED have placed goalkeeper Luke Weaver on the transfer list - just over a year after he was rated as being one of the brightest stars at Brunton Park.

Having been dropped by Cumbrians boss Ian Atkins at the start of the season, Weaver now has little chance of breaking back into the first-team with on-loan Bolton keeper Matty Glennon in dazzling form between the sticks.

Weaver began his career at Sunderland before moving to Cumbria in August 1999 on a free transfer.

Former Carlisle boss Martin Wilkinson touted the former England Youth international as one of the best signings that the club had ever made, even going so far as to suggest that the 21-year-old shot-stopper would one day go on to earn full England honours.

This development will increase the pressure on United to clinch the signature of Glennon permanently.

It is known that Bolton would be happy for him to join the Third Division side, although the £50,000 fee that they are believed to be looking for may prove a problem for the cash-strapped Cumbrians.
