HUME HAPPY IN CANADA
The 17-year-old hit-man could not be happier with the way things have turned around at Prenton Park.
Talking exclusively to Planetfootball.com, Hume said: "We're having a good (FA) Cup run at the moment.
"Unfortunately, things aren't going well in the league but, with the cup run, hopefully, the boys will get their confidence and pick it up in the league and, hopefully, we'll keep ourselves up this year (in the First Division)."
Hume played most of Wednesday night's opening match against Honduras before coming off but he feels his form at this tournament will have little affect on his playing time with John Aldridge's side.
He said: "I don't really know if my performance at this tournament means much in England because Canada is not really known as a big soccer nation.
"Depending on how good I do here, I don't know if it really matters over there.
"Of course, it will give some kind of reference to them (Tranmere) and let them know how well I am playing here.
"It depends on how well I play over there with the reserves and how I get my appearances with the first team."
Despite making some appearances of the bench for the Merseysiders, Hume is enjoying his time in West Birkenhead under the tuteledge of former Liverpool great Aldridge.
Hume said: "It's a great experience with John Aldridge because with me being a striker, he's the type of player that I love to play under.
"He's one of the best finishers ever.
"Being there to teach me how to finish and to help me progress with my game is always going to be a great experience."
The Canadian Under-20 international has been witness to Tranmere's FA Cup heroics, having been substituted in at Everton in the famous 3-0 fourth round victory.
Hume also saw a tremendous comeback when club team-mate Paul Rideout scored a hat-trick to help overcome Premiership side Southampton at Prenton Park in the fifth round.
"He (Paul Rideout) has been around a long time and having been with Rangers and Everton, he brings loads of experience to the club and you'll find even the players that are 25 and 26 years of age are learning off of him because he's such a good role-model for a lot of us young players."
The young forward is looking forward to try and take another Merseyside scalp when they face Liverpool next weekend.
Hume said: "At home in the cup, we've proven we can beat anyone like last year with West Ham and Sunderland and this year with Everton and Southampton.
"So, hopefully we can put in a similar performance against Liverpool and have another upset."
However, Hume sees First Division survival as the top priority this season.
He said: "It's vital, we've got to stay up. Financially, the club need it badly.
"Staying up would do a lot for keeping players at the club and hopefully, we get a bit higher than mid-table and then push for promotion sometime next year."
For the moment, Hume's focus is on getting Canada qualified for the World Youth Championships in Argentina this summer with a victory this evening over rivals Mexico.
"We've got a good bunch of lads here (in Victoria) and we've got to be confident with the performance (on Wednesday).
"We've got to go in (against Mexico) with our heads up and playing to win, we can't go for a draw."
One person that is hoping Hume will be in form against Mexico in Canadian Under-20 manager Paul James.
James told Planetfootball.com: "He's matured as a player, both on and off the field.
"The only thing with Iain is he is such a spark plug and has lots of energy, so he tires quickly but I can see him being a huge value to us as the tournament goes on."
