ADVOCAAT DISMISSES TRANSFER RUMOURS

GLASGOW RANGERS boss Dick Advocaat has rubbished reports linking the club with a move for Hibernian defender Ulrik Laursen and a possible move by Leeds United for Gers captain Barry Ferguson.

Reports over the weekend had suggested Rangers were looking at Danish international Laursen, who has impressed for Hibs this season and that Leeds boss David O'Leary was preparing a £12 million move for Ferguson.

Hibs boss Alex McLeish reacted angrily to any possible interest in Rangers by claiming that they would have to pay a much higher fee that the £1.5 million that was suggested in the report.

"Whoever wants to sign Ulrich will have to pay a lot more than that," said McLeish. "Talk of £1.5 million is laughable.

"But I have no knowledge of any interest from Rangers-you will have to ask them about that.

Ibrox supremo Advocatt has denied all knowledge of any possible transfers involving either player.

"It is nonsense, we are not interested in Laursen at all, and I know nothing about Leeds being after Ferguson," Advocaat told the official Rangers website.

The Dutch manager had suggested that he was planning a massive overhaul at the club during the summer after a disappointing season, which sees them trail Old Firm rivals Celtic by 13 points in the league, but it is unlikely he will want to lose the highly-rated Ferguson.

Meanwhile the Gers suffered more bad news on the injury front with Neil McCann possibly out for the rest of the season if tests show he requires a hernia operation.

The winger has struggled with the problem for the last few weeks and he is to undergo a scan this week to see if he requires surgery for the problem.
