NUNO GOMES HOMESICK
Nuno Gomes was only snapped up by The Viola in the summer, after an impressive display for his nation in Euro 2000 suggested that the youngster could go a little way to replace the departing legend Gabriel Batistuta.
However managerial changes, the loss of 'Batigol and growing dissidence toward president Vittorio Cecchi Gori have made it a difficult season to be a Fiorentina player.
Nuno Gomes, in the wake of speculation that Sporting are interested in the star, has admitted that life was not easy in Florence, especially following the departure of coach Fatih Terim and general manager Giancarlo Antognoni.
"Sporting is a great club, but, in the words of the vice-president Mario Sconcerti, it would be very difficult for me to leave Fiorentina," stated the striker.
"The situation here is not easy. We haven't won in seven games and the people who brought me to Florence no longer work at the club.
"Despite all of this, I have been told that the new arrivals are happy with me and that they want to keep me," Nuno Gomes added to the Portuguese media.
Nuno Gomes arrived at Fiorentina for a not-inconsiderable £10 million from Benfica, but has only shown his goalscoring talents on sporadic occasions.
However, the massive price that The Viola would demand has made any firm move from Portugal for the 24-year-old unlikely, although it could encourage suitors from other top clubs.
