PIRES RECEIVES CASH PAY-OUT FROM L`OM
MARSEILLE have been ordered to pay Arsenal winger Robert Pires £1.2 million, which he claimed was owed to him following his move from Metz in 1998.
Pires was signed by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger in the summer and requested the French club settled his bonuses, which were negotiated two years earlier.
Marseille argued that his new contract with Arsenal freed them of any obligations, but the French League ruled in favour of the talented international.
The club were also fined around £4,000 and Pires £400 for "mysterious character of the agreement" which "did not respect the principles of the football character."
"Robert respects verbal deals and expects others to do the same," Pires` lawyer Laurent Zachayus said.
