BASSEDAS UNWORRIED BY PASSPORT SCANDAL
Bassedas has joined Clarence Acuna as the latest Magpies player to put club before country, although his current form would unlikely see him get a call-up to the Argentine squad.
Bobby Robson, the Newcastle manager has pleaded with his South American stars not to play for their countries, because of the stress the inter-continental flying places on their bodies.
Nolberto Solano, who was in disagreement with Peru having been played out of position, has now decided to rekindle his international career, much to Robson's distress.
Bassedas re-iterated his family claims to an Italian passport and stated his desire to continue to try and adapt to his new surroundings.
The Argentinian international said: "The father of my mother was Italian and I have no worries about any investigations.
"I am not thinking about Argentina now, my mind is on the job here at Newcastle.
"What we need now is to get back to winning ways and to get back into the habit of winning.
"For me, I need to be playing regularly. Then I can think again about international football. But my priority is with Newcastle."
