NAKATA ISSUES ROMA ULTIMATUM

HIDETOSHI NAKATA has hinted that he will be walking away from Roma in the summer - news that will alert a number of Premiership clubs.

The talented Japanese forward has always struggled for regular first-team action at the Stadio Olimpico, because he favours a position behind the front two - generally inhabited by captain Francesco Totti.

However, the impending arrival of youngster Antonio Cassano, who will complete his switch from Bari to Roma in the summer, has further threatened Nakata's future.

Incidentally, the Oriental star has only recently signed a new deal with the side, but is clearly unsettled at the Serie A table-toppers who paid Perugia £8 million for his services last season, and has handed coach Fabio Capello an ultimatum.

"If I can not secure a first team place in the coming month then I will leave Roma at the end of the season," stated Nakata.

There will be no shortage of suitors for the 24-year-old, with several English clubs likely to be well aware of the huge Far East television market that Nakata brings in as one of his nation's most successful sporting exports.

Although he favours a position that is still considered something of a tactical oddity in the English league, the skilful playmaker would be a valuable addition to many top-flight clubs.

Meanwhile, Roma are rumoured to be set for a £10 million move for Brescia youngster Daniele Bonera.

The 20-year-old is considered one of the best up-and-coming stars in the league, although the massive price tag demanded by Brescia was enough to discourage Juventus during the winter transfer window.
