QUINN SUFFERS INJURY HEARTACHE
Quinn, who has been a rare bright spot in Wednesday's sorry season, was stretchered off in the 37th minute after what appeared to be an innocuous challenge with Sheffield United skipper Keith Curle.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international's absence will be a major blow to The Owls as they battle to avoid the drop.
Wednesday caretaker boss Peter Shreeves, who believes his side are still at least four points away from guaranteeing their safety, admitted that they will miss Quinn for the final part of the season.
"Alan has fractured his fibula - an X-ray has confirmed that - and he will be out for six weeks," said Shreeves.
"He is a smashing player and we're going to miss him. He was certainly the best player on view today until he went off.
"When you have somebody in a local derby who can run at players, it lifts the crowd. He made things happen.
"But these things happen and we have to keep going."
Wednesday could also be without Ashley Westwood for at least a couple of weeks after the central defender picked up a hamstring injury late in the game and Shreeves hopes that those on the sidelines will come in and do a job for the side.
"Some of the players that have been on the fringe will come into it now and continue the battle," said Shreeves.
"I said there would be some setbacks on the way and losing this derby was a major one, albeit a temporary one.
"Long term we know we can still get out of trouble and I will stick with my prophecy that 49 to 50 points will see us to safety. We've still three home matches and it's in our hands."
