PETRESCU UNSURE ABOUT HIS NEXT MOVE

DAN PETRESCU has revealed that his future at Southampton is in the balance, but he is unlikely to be leaving The Dell to join former Saints boss Glenn Hoddle at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Romanian played under the former England manager at Chelsea, and move to the South Coast from Bradford only because Hoddle was at the helm.

Hoddle assumed control at Tottenham at the start of last week and it was widely reported that Petrescu could be his first capture.

However, the 33-year-old full back has insisted that joining up with Hoddle for a third time would be unlikely, as he has a deep affection for Chelsea and that moving to White Hart Lane would hurt The Blues` faithful.

Petrescu, whose daughter is called Chelsea, said: "I like Hoddle.  He has done more for me than any other coach.  It would be a pleasure to work for him.

"But the Chelsea fans would be very upset if they see me playing for one of their London rivals. The club have a special place in my heart."

Speaking about his future, Petrescu added: "Although I am happy to be a Southampton player, I am only here because Glenn wanted me.

"Whatever I choose to do will be a very hard decision."
